BEFORE YOU DRIVE OUT
Questions we
get a lot.
If yours isn’t here, call (605) 520-2932 — someone who actually knows the answer will pick up.
Do I need an appointment to pick apples?
No. U-pick is open during posted hours with no appointment and no ticket. Stop at the farm store when you arrive and we’ll point you to the rows that are picking well that day.
What’s ripe right now?
The update at the top of our homepage is kept current by hand and shows what’s ready and which U-pick hours are running. If you’re making a long drive, calling (605) 520-2932 is faster and more certain.
When is the best time to come for Honeycrisp?
Usually mid-to-late September, though the exact week moves with the weather. Our harvest calendar lists approximate windows for all twelve varieties we grow.
How much do U-pick apples cost?
U-pick apples are priced by the pound and the rate depends on the variety. Call the orchard for this season’s pricing, or just ask at the store when you arrive — we weigh what you pick on your way out.
How far are you from Watertown?
About 25 minutes. Brookings is around 50 minutes, Huron about an hour, and Sioux Falls about an hour and a half.
Are you open Sundays?
No. The farm store is open Tuesday through Friday noon to 5:30 PM and Saturday 10 AM to 5:30 PM. We are closed Sunday and Monday.
Do you have gluten-free options?
Our mini donuts are gluten-free and are made on Saturdays. Our pies are not gluten-free — none of them, in any variety.
Can I bring kids? Can I bring a dog?
Kids, absolutely — the orchard is a good place to turn them loose. For dogs, call ahead; it depends on how busy we are and what is happening in the rows that day.
Do you do hayrides?
Yes, on Saturdays through the season. Times vary with the day and how busy we are, so call the orchard if you are planning around a particular ride.
Is there a pumpkin patch?
Yes, and this year’s is the biggest we have grown. Pumpkins, gourds and squash come on through the fall — the homepage update says where the patch is at right now.
Can I order a pie ahead?
Order through our Square store. Pickup is Tuesday–Saturday, noon–4 PM, with at least 24 hours’ notice.
Do you host school groups or field trips?
We are not running school field trips this season. Groups are welcome during normal open hours — give us a call ahead of time if you are bringing a large one.
What do you accept for payment?
Cash, check and credit cards in the farm store.
